The Coachella Music and Arts Festival also known as (Coachella, Coachellafest or Coachella Festival) is one of the biggest music events of our time. Music artist from across the globe join together to showcase a two weekender of some of the most spellbinding performances to date.

The list of stars is endless: Jimmy Cliff & Tim Armstrong, Frank Ocean, Kaiser Chiefs, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Kasabian, Bon Iver, The Hives to name a phew. And to make the weekend even better the Coachella Festival also had unscheduled guest appearances from artist such as; Eminem, 50 Cent, Kendrick Lamar, Wiz Khalifa, Warren G and Kurupt.
All of these stars are icons in their own right and fashion is a subject that is just as important to the Coachella festival as the A-List on show. It is also a time for the world’s top clothes designers to showcase the work on celebrities visiting the event.

Levi’s Vinatge, PRPS, Pretty Green and True Religion are a phew of the long list of clothing brands on show at the The Coachella Music and Arts Festival.
BUT! The performance that had the world gasping for air, had to be the trio, Snoop Dogg, Dr Dre and 2pac!! Yes Tupac Shakur.

By creating a 6D hologram of the deceased artist they were able to have Tupac on stage performing like the good old days. Mixed emotions filled the crowd, as some was over the moon to witness this new chapter in technology, others reminisced about 2 Pac’s passing, which would of been a very touching moment for those who loved him and those who knew of him personally.

Last week saw the sad news that Adam Yauch or MCA of the Beastie Boys had died of cancer, at the age of 47. Yauch was one of the founding members of the group which was founded way back in 1979. Since then they have gone on to make some of the most influential albums in modern times.
Due to their careers being so long they have appealed to numerous generations and are probably one of the few bands that are almost universally liked.

The Beastie Boys also had a huge impact on style, as well as music, which is obvious in just about all their videos, especially fight for your right.
MCA’s death is a huge loss to the music world and he’ll be sorely missed but it’s important to celebrate his amazing career, so get out your Beastie Boys albums and play LOUD!

For me, Drive, was the stand out film of 2011. With a mix of good acting, an awesome 80’s sounding soundtrack (which has been playing in our Sheffield store recently) and some pretty decent car chases; there wasn’t a great deal missing from Nicholas Winding Refn’s film. The plot, for those of you that haven’t seen it, is focused on Ryan Gosling’s nameless lead character that is a stunt car driver by day, but also moonlights as a getaway driver for criminals.

Now, the fact that this film has been out on DVD for a couple of months is not news, however, the release of the sequel to the novel is. I didn’t know this until recently but Drive is actually a film adaptation of a book by an author called James Sallis. The sequel, Driven, is out on the 8th of May and I am hoping that this means there will be a film version on its way as well.

Below is a video of the opening credits to Drive. The song is called Nightcall by Kavinsky.

For spring/summer 2012 it isn’t hard to see where denim brand Edwin took their inspiration. From the I.D.W.P video they made with the guys from Paris based motorbike company Blitz Motorcycles, to the S/S 12 look books (which you can pick up for free from our Sheffield store), Motorbikes are everywhere.

For as long as Motorbikes have been around they have been used as a symbol in popular culture for; freedom, adventure, rebellion and just plain old vanity. I’m sure there isn’t a single person in the world, who upon the mention of Motorbikes, doesn’t think of a famous moment from a film in which the lead character rides a Motorbike. So, as an homage to the Motorbike, we have put together a couple of classic video’s which we think sum up the spirit of everything that they represent.

Tuesday the 3rd of April saw two of the most successful clubs in European football history, AC Milan and Barcelona, go head to head in the quarter final second leg of the Champions league. Between them they have won the European Champions league 13 times, with the trophy going to AC Milan 7 times and Barcelona collecting the Trophy on 4 occasions.

As well as the history of the two respective clubs, there were also some interesting sub plots to the game. One of the most notable is the battle between Leo Messi and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Now, most people in England will argue that Zlatan is a complete waste of space as it seems he never shows up in big games or against English Clubs, but in Italy he is regarded as a one of the best strikers in the world. One statistic that might back this view up is that ‘Ibra’ has won a domestic league championship every year since 2004 with 5 different teams. On the night, however, it was Messi who came out on top after a 3-1 victory in which he scored 2 penalties.
The Italian sport paper ‘Corriere dello Sport’ picked up on this rivalry but also added an extra dimension, as they looked at the sartorial choices of the two strikers. Have a look at the video and see who you think comes out on top of this particular battle.

These are in our opinion the best dressed men in football, notably David Beckham for being the face of Giorgio Armani, Police and Calvin Klein. Seen regularly in brands like Prps, Redwing Boots and Scotch & Soda.

Over saturation has made so only brands that have been marketed the best, in most desirable way, will stand out and get through to the consumer. The death of the television in many people’s homes, in favour of a good Hi-Fi and a computer monitor means that corporate advertising has become somewhat limited, and with rapid growth of the internet, we are finding that web-users will ‘bookmark’ their favourite sites and re-visit them, this process is almost like creating your own television, consisting of many channels you want.

We’re living in a time where the impact of advertising is limited and can be ‘skipped’, you’d be surprised as to how quickly a web-user knows what’s important and vital when searching the internet. It becomes second nature to close any pop-ups that whilst your trying to watch a video on YouTube, they don’t even get chance to get their point across.

As a whole, our patience is closing down, we know what we want and we want it now. In many ways the user friendly approach makes us feel like were in control but the effect this may be having on the human-psyche is something else completely, and it’s been suggested that it could also be damaging to our patience and approach to making choices in life.

All that said, it’s not all doom and gloom. The internet boom has allowed creative’s with a interest in fashion and marketing to educate themselves about the high end elite, thus allowing a large majority a chance at making something of themselves within the fashion and clothing industry.

From the early days of Bill Gates, Silicon Valley and the roller coaster of Apples success, both fashion and technology have changed and evolved beside each other.

It’s all swings and roundabouts but it’s this food for thought that keeps our world going round.

If you’ve not come across the work of Vivienne Westwood before, where the hell have you been? For three decades she has been Britain’s most outrageous, eccentric and controversial designer, who is constantly original. To an iconoclastic outsider she has evolved into an international revered figure after helping evolve the punk sense in London from the 70s, after working with the Sex Pistols and ultimately marrying the late sir Malcolm McClaren. Since then her work has taken her global and has always been especially well-receive in the North of England – Westwood herself was born along the local Sheffield-Manchester road ‘Snake’s Pass’.
